Message from the Chair of ICoTA European Chapter

Message from the Chair of ICoTA European Chapter

"I'm delighted to take on the role of Chair for 2017-18.

"In my opinion, and from my experiences travelling, we are very fortunate to be in one of the best areas for innovative ideas to emerge and take their first steps into the intervention arena.

"Our industry went from peak of the market to bottom of the market in 16 weeks, the single worst decline in 30 years. There is however some renewed optimism with the oil price increasing and companies starting to invest in the industry once more. The OGA is playing an important role and its founding principle of ‘Maximizing Economic Recovery’ should breathe new life into mature areas and create new opportunities. The requirement for diversification, collaboration and for renewed simple and cost effective innovation, has never been stronger. This is where ICoTA can help, by providing a platform for sharing knowledge, information and for networking, which should benefit everyone who works in our industry.

"In my role as Chair, I am going to build on the success of recent months where we have encouraged greater co-operation and collaboration between operators and service companies. I will also continue to maximize the opportunities presented by SPE Aberdeen through the recent MOU.

"I will work closely with the committee to seek valuable case histories and lessons learned to share with our members. The calendar of Lunch and Learn events this year is particularly strong. For the first time, you will find that we are moving the lunch and learns sessions around various operators and service companies premises to extend ICoTA’s reach in the Oil and Gas Industry. I’m looking forward to building on the success of the SPE ICoTA Well Intervention Conference where we gained significant operator support in 2016.  We have a pro-active sub-committee in place to drive this forward this year. I’m also looking forward to working with committee member, Andrew Patterson again on the Innovation Award.

"In addition to the technical presentations and knowledge sharing, we will bring back our Annual Quiz, which was such a success last year.  I believe the informal events are still very important, and offer an excellent networking opportunity, which is vital during these challenging times.

"2017 will present its own challenges, but by working closely with the committee, other societies, operators and service companies, we can continue to deliver on ICoTA’s mission statement of improving communication and promoting the value of well intervention solutions within the oil and gas industry."
