The Lunch and Learns provide a forum for sharing case histories, field experience and new technologies.

The topic of this lunch and learn will be ‘Tapping into industry knowledge with intercompany teamwork, to provide solutions to Down Hole Safety Valve challenges and restore lost production’, and will be presented by Sarah de Boer, Project Manager, Well Construction, Oil and Gas Technology Centre.  Richard Innes of TOTAL will Chair the session.

A significant amount of production in the UKCS is lost due to wells shut in for integrity related issues, including compromised down hole safety valves (DHSVs).  The principle of design and operation for DHSVs has changed little over the last few decades, along with the methods used to fix operational issues.

The OGTC held a workshop to challenge DHSV design and operation, and develop innovative technologies to improve reliability, both by new product design and improved servicing and repair of older designs. Operators, service companies and SME’s worked together to define the challenges and identify technology areas for the OGTC to target.

Following on from the workshop, the OGTC is developing our innovation platforms to further develop solutions to the identified challenges through funding research, development and operational trials. We have approved one project from the findings, and have three further ‘sparks’ in the pipeline.

The presentation will describe the methods for cross company collaboration to solve industry challenges, how we can engage with universities and research institutions and how we can all play a part in increasing production in the UKCS and anchoring the supply chain in the North East of Scotland.

Agenda is as follows:
11.45 for 12.00 - Registration
12.00 - Presentation and Q&A
12.45 - Buffet and Networking
13.30 - Close
