ICoTA Europe Lunch and Learn - Well Integrity, Surveillance and Diagnostics

May 31st 2018

From 11:45 for 12:00, ends by 13:30

Venue: Village Hotel, Prime4 Business Park, Kingswells

ICoTA facilitates connections and shares knowledge across all well intervention disciplines.

The topic of the session will be Well Integrity, Surveillance and Diagnostics presented by RSRUK and chaired by Alan Quirke, Head of Well Management, Repsol Sinopec Resources Ltd.

In April 2013 a two day SPE UK Well Integrity Forum (2013) concluded that “predicting individual well integrity failures is not possible, reacting to failure is the best case”

In 2018 is it fair to say that data (or reliability data) cannot predict the type nor timing of integrity failures in ageing wells?

The presentation by Repsol Sinopec UK will discuss how the organisation has used historic well component failure or degradation data to inform, adopting a risked approach, potential future failures in similar systems.

It will consider the type of integrity data gathered, how data is qualified and managed, who reviews the data, how is the data interpreted and what decisions are taken as a result of data interpretation.

How subjective the interpretation of the data is.

Additionally the presentation will offer a view and canvass opinion on the support given to a Production Asset team or Business unit when data interpretation suggests action is required, how those required actions are justified.

It will ask if we are gathering data and carrying out interpretation of that data to satisfy ourselves that major accidents hazards are being managed in line with company standards and industry guidance/best practice; if we are we gathering data to convince ourselves that no action is required or if we are simply acquiring data to demonstrate that we have lots of data suggesting that statistically the probability of failure is low, more data and ‘positive interpretation’ results in better statistics.

Agenda is as follows:
11.45 for 12.00 - Registration
12.00 - Presentation and Q&A
12.45 - Buffet and Networking
13.30 - Close
