2016 Innovation Award Winners

The prestigious ICoTA European Chapter Innovation Award is open for entries and will recognise a service company or operator for the application of technological innovation in the area of well intervention.

Judged by the ICoTA European Chapter Committee, submissions are welcomed for well intervention technologies developed and applied in Europe or elsewhere for the first time, or developed elsewhere and applied for the first time in Europe.

Each year, the award recognises a company, or group of companies, who push the boundaries of well intervention and coiled tubing technology. Last year’s winner comprised Shell, Helix Well Ops and ALTUS Intervention who collected the prize for their collaboration on an innovative system designed to increase oil production on a subsea well by 1,200 barrels per day.

Ian Retalic, Regional Business Development Manager at ALTUS Intervention said:

“We have been an active supporter of ICoTA’s drive to promote the benefits of well intervention and in particular its promotion of new technology for many years. We were delighted when the opportunity arose to submit our own application, along with our project partners (Shell and Helix Well Ops) for the prestigious ICoTA Innovation award. At ALTUS, we wanted to share with our peers what was technically a great success story but, equally as important, highlight a great example of the benefits and the power of a true industry collaboration. The Innovation Award itself is a great motivator and a great accolade with which to recognise and acknowledge the expertise in our industry”.

Presenting the ICoTA European Chapter Innovation award contributes to ICoTA Europe’s mission of improving communication and promoting the value of well intervention solutions within the oil and gas industry. ICoTA Europe Chair, Steve Moir, spoke about what the award means to them:

“Presenting the Innovation Award is a particularly special moment in the year for us as a Chapter. ICoTA Europe’s whole purpose is to seek out and distribute knowledge and expertise surrounding all areas of well intervention. Each year the entries for the Innovation Award cover a wide range of exciting technologies which are pushing the boundaries of well intervention. It is a great privilege to be able to share these technological innovations with our Chapter members and the wider energy sector, as well as recognise the outstanding advancements being made in the well intervention industry.”

This year’s winner will be announced at the 23rd SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Conference which takes place on the 15th and 16th November 2017 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. The winner will be presented with a perpetual trophy and an award to retain, with their win also being publicised widely in the media and throughout the industry, including to both the ICoTA and SPE Aberdeen membership and at the conference itself.

Entries close 21 September 2017 and the finalists will be announced in October 2017. To find out more about the ICoTA Innovation Award, and how to enter, visit the awards page
