A new Chair for the ICoTA European Chapter was officially appointed at our Annual Dinner on 23 February. 

2017/18 Chair Steve Moir handed over the Chairpersonship to Ian Retalic of Altus Intervention at the dinner attended by nearly 300 industry professionals. 

Having served on the ICoTA Europe Committee for 17 years, Ian will bring his 30+ years experience in the industry to the role and continue our mission of improving communication and promoting the value of well intervention solutions within the oil and gas industry.

We spoke to Ian about his new role, and his aims for the Chapter in 2018/19.  

How long have you been involved with ICoTA Europe? 

"It’s been a while! I first became involved with ICoTA back in 2001 when I joined the European Chapter committee. The following year I became European Chapter Co-Chair (2002-2003) then Chair 2003-2004. Following my term as Chair I remained involved as a committee member.

"I have also been an ICoTA International Director member, Houston conference Co-Chair and organising committee member in support of the Houston Coiled Tubing & Well Intervention Conference & Exhibitions."

What made you want to get involved with ICoTA Europe as an organisation?

"Back then I was employed by a very progressive new start-up company, heavily involved in the introduction of new technology, well maintenance and construction techniques. They quickly recognised the significant potential within ICoTA to educate and so further aid the adoption of new technology so desperately needed within the industry. Supporting ICoTA’s aim in raising industry awareness across the intervention community of what was being done in the industry by way of knowledge transfer within the intervention community was very infectious!"  

What is the important objective for ICoTA Europe as a not-for-profit organisation in 2018? 

"The ICoTA objective is the same today as it has always been; “Improve communication and promote technical awareness within and across the well intervention industry”. As a not for profit organisation; that is only possible as a function of the continued and loyal support of our members, sponsors and Industry Champions, all who we can’t thank enough. 

"The industry has talked a great deal recently about collaboration which is at the very heart of what ICoTA is all about via our communications and knowledge exchange forums. We must expand upon that message in 2018, raising awareness such that we continue to grow the organisation in support of our members and in turn, our industry."   

What do you look to bring to ICoTA Europe as 2018/19 Chair?

"An energy and motivation in support and extension of the great works done by all involved in the ICoTA story to date. With the support of the committee expansion of the organisation and a greater recognition of the great work this voluntary organisation does in support of the industry."
