Meet the Committee: Alan Turner

Alan Turner With Fellow Icota Europe Committee Members

The ICoTA Europe committee comprises industry volunteers who shape the activities and events that further the objectives of the organisation.

This year, Alan Turner took up the role of Treasurer for the European Chapter. As part of our series, 'Meet the Committee', we asked Alan about his ICoTA Europe highlights and his plans for the organization.

What is your role within the well intervention industry?

"My present role is within my own business and is as a consultant coiled tubing, well intervention and well test engineer."

How long have you been involved with ICoTA Europe?

"I have been part of the European Chapter’s (EC) committee since 2002. Through this period, I have held various official roles including from 2002 to 2006 - EC Treasurer; 2007 - EC Co-chair, and in 2008 I served as the EC Chairman.

"In 2013, I led the SPE/ICoTA Global Well Intervention Conference. I was Global ICoTA co-chair in 2014 and Global ICoTA Chairman in 2015."

What would you say are your highlights from working with ICoTA Europe?

"There are numerous! Leading ICoTA in Europe, leading the global technical Well Intervention conference, and then globally leading the ICoTA association."

What challenges and opportunities do you see in the well intervention industry at the moment, and how is ICoTA Europe addressing these?

"Along with the rising oil prices, I believe the market is improving and ultimately more well intervention work will be required in 2018-19. ICoTA Europe is the premier industry association which both represents and incorporates all parts of well intervention. As such it runs a wide range of networking and communication events.

"Where ICoTA comes into this is:- in focusing our Extended working lunch topic and moving to choosing topics and presentations which suit the current industry. In addition, we will give priority to case histories at the EWIC."

If you could accomplish one thing as part of the ICoTA Europe Committee this year, what would it be?

"Beyond my responsibilities for the association’s finances, I have 3 goals for 2018.

"Firstly, we will be developing and introducing a new set of Bylaws for the European Chapter.

"Secondly, the ICoTA Global website will undergo a significant redevelopment during the second half of 2018. Two of my objectives with this are to improve the website’s functionality and also to minimize the disruption to members.

"Finally, ICoTA will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019. Hence, the planning and preparation for this will start in Q4 2018."

And finally, why should people join ICoTA Europe?

"Our networking opportunities provide great value for money, with our low cost membership of just £32 + VAT."
