Meet the Committee: Darren Paul

Posted on 09/Oct/2018

As well as being an ICoTA Europe Committee member, Darren Paul has also taken on a new role this year where he will head up the SPE ICoTA 24th Well Intervention Conference as Chair.

Darren is Well Engineering Team Lead C&WI at Shell U.K. Limited, and we caught up with him recently on what he sees as the benefits of the organisation, as well as his personal highlights from his time with ICoTA Europe.

Why did you get involved with ICoTA Europe?

"I've been a part of the ICoTA Europe committee for the past 2 years and I think the organisation is great for building relationships, learning about new technologies and getting a better understanding of what the rest of the industry are up to. It's a great vehicle for collaboration and shared learning. Put simply, it is a great place to meet new people and learn new things."

What have been your highlights from working with ICoTA Europe?

"I'd say discovering new technologies has been a particular highlight, especially when we can bring those technologies into our business. The events are also highlights in the calendar for me - the conference, dinner and the annual golf challenge are definite stand outs."

What challenges and opportunities do you see in the well intervention industry at the moment, and how do you hope to address these as part of ICoTA Europe?

"Industry competence, after the downturn, is an area that requires focus and also reducing intervention cost, complexity and footprint to enable an increase in our intervention intensity. The way we can address this, and what we are already doing, is by sharing lessons, providing a platform to learn and sharing new technologies."
