As part of our ongoing series introducing the people behindICoTA, we sat down with Stuart Berry, Global DFOS Manager at Expro andSenior Chair of the ICoTA Innovation Awards Committee for 2026.

How did you get into the coiled tubing/well intervention industry?
After graduating with a BSc in Geology from Aberdeen University, and a brief career in mud logging, Stuart started with a small independent logging company running services in the Danish Sector. Through this company, Read Well Services, he experienced many aspects of the industry —wireline, slickline, coiled tubing, drilling, completions, and seismic.
What does your role on the ICoTA Committee involve?
In addition to general contributions to discussions and events that ICoTA holds each year, Stuart is currently the ICoTA Innovation Awards Senior Chair for 2026. This involves coordinating the promotion and scoring process to select the winner of ICoTA's prestigious Innovation Award.
Why did you get involved with ICoTA? What made you decideto give up personal time?
Stuart's first experience of ICoTA was actually presenting atechnology to the Innovation Awards committee, followed by presenting at conferences. Attending the then-named Lunch & Learns, he soon realised the value ICoTA could bring through expanding his knowledge and network in the industry — eventually joining the committee to give back to the forum.
What's the most exciting thing happening in the CT andinterventions space right now — where do you see the industry heading?
Stuart's current passion is in the fibre optic sector, where he sees this emerging technology revolutionising the surveillance business.Through a single deployment or permanent installation, wellbores can now be seen like never before — and as with seismic, the ongoing development of data processing and analytics will only bring more insight and value from these datasets.
What's the one thing you wish you'd known earlier in yourcareer? Any advice for someone just starting out?
Stuart's advice: try to get experience outside your local area. The world is a great big place with lots of amazing people and cultures, and a career in this sector can open those doors — something he wishes he had explored earlier in his own career.
What's your favourite thing about the ICoTA community?
For Stuart, it's the genuine lowering of competitive barriers between members from different companies, and a true desire to share knowledge and progress the industry as a whole.
Outside of work, what are you passionate about? Hobbies, interests, hidden talents?
Stuart volunteers as a coach for his daughter's local football team, and finds the passion and energy of working with young people to improve themselves to be energising for his own life.
