Amit Govil's journey into the well intervention world began back in 1993, when he joined SLB as a Wireline Field Engineer. Over three decades later, he's still just as passionate about the industry — and about giving back to it.
Since 2021, Amit has been based in Scandinavia, working as an Advisor in Reservoir Performance Intervention, supporting operators across the region. He's authored multiple technical papers and is actively engaged with NORCE on bond application research in P&A — but it's his role as ICoTA Scandinavia's Tech Night Lead that he speaks about with particular enthusiasm.
"I felt I had learned so much from the industry and should find a way to give it back," he says. It's a sentiment that led him naturally to ICoTA, where he kicked off the first Scandinavia Tech Night in Q4 2023. For Amit, these evenings are about more than just presentations — they're chance for like-minded professionals to share real experiences in an informal setting, spark creativity, and take practical learnings straight back to their operations.
Looking ahead, Amit sees digital technology and the clean energy transition as the driving forces reshaping well intervention."Digital in interventions is the future — extracting energy cost-effectively from existing wells and infrastructure," he says.
His advice for anyone starting out? Get involved. Present. Publish. Share. "Attending and sharing knowledge in public forums is something I wish I'd embraced earlier in my career."
When he's not immersed in the world of well intervention, you'll find Amit with his nose in a book or, when the opportunity arises, exploring somewhere new.
